Description
Fine mid C18th George II Chippendale period mahogany chest-on-chest.
Raised on bold ogee bracket feet, the base section fitted 3 long drawers with a ‘brushing slide’ above fitted original brass ‘axe-head’ pulls. The upper section fitted two short drawers above two long graduated drawers . All retaining the original elaborate cast brass rococo-style handles and escutcheon plates. The oak-lined , moulded edge drawers all retaining their original locks .
The upper section having reeded canted corners , and a Chinese Chippendale carved ‘blind-fret’ frieze below a gently flared cavetto cornice with a carved dentil moulding.
In original, fresh-to-market, countryhouse, untouched condition. Minor losses to fret and veneers, which will be sympathetically addressed and restored in our workshops prior to sale .
A superior grade of dense , figured mahogany, the whole having achieved a superb rich colour and patina, retaining its original surface .
A classic piece of mid Georgian mahogany furniture in remarkable original condition.
Traditionally constructed in 2 sections for ease of movement and transportation.
Provenance: From the estate of a Warwickshire gentleman.
