C19th Chinoiserie design lacquered papier-mâché tray table .
Cartouche-shaped dished-top papier-mâché tray fitted on a later early C20th bespoke made folding base to form a table . The tray with traditional Chinese-inspired oriental style gilded decoration with figures and pagodas in a landscape .
The conforming ebonised base with gilt-line decoration , the hinged and folding design forming a stable table and also allowing the tray to be displayed in a vertical aspect when not in use as a flat table.
In excellent original condition with one historic sympathetically repaired chip to the edge of the tray .
Highly decorative and practical low table to add an exotic oriental accent to an interior scheme.
