Pair of finely executed large early C19th pastel paintings depicting bucolic pastoral country landscapes in original giltwood frames.
Skilfully painted impressive large-scale pair of pastel landscapes showing cattle and figures in arcadian landscape settings . Of opposing composition aspects ,retaining their original bright , vibrant colours, having been protected from sunlight and preserved in their original gilt wood frames retaining their original period glass The foreground of each having cattle and sheep being driven and herded , with deep perspectives showing mountains , rivers and bridges in the hinterland .
The giltwood cavetto profile frames with an inner carved ‘lambs-tongue’ moulding. Minor historic chips to frame edges and having pleasing subtle aged wear to the gilding in some areas showing the red bole gesso ground beneath.
A hugely decorative pair of pastel paintings in excellent original condition. Probably English, though possibly European Continental .
