Early C19th classical engraving after Claude Lorrain “Coast view with the Abduction of Europa “ in original glazed burr maple frame .
After the original painting by Claude Lorrain completed in 1645 depicting the mythological story of Europa and The Bull .The work showing a European coastal and landscape view , with figures and the bull in the foreground, a fortification and port scene with shipping in the background ( probably Tyre ) .
In Greek mythology Europa the Phoenician princess from Tyre , mother of King Minos of Crete , was abducted by Zeus in the guise of a bull .
Retaining its original burr maple frame , glass and gilt slip .
An interesting and decorative classical engraving in excellent original condition .
