C19th Italian ‘Grand Tour’ souvenir bronze reduction sculpture of the Lion of Mark .
Well-cast bronze sculpture of the iconic winged Lion of St.Mark found in Piazza San Marco , Venice Italy . Detailed mane , feather cast wings and extended tail .
The sculpture represents Mark the Evangelist depicted as a winged lion , his paw raised upon a Bible , being the symbol of the city of Venice and formerly the Venetian Republic. The Lion of St.Mark acts as a politico-religious symbol of Venetian sovereignty.
The sculpture is mounted upon an oval plinth onto an integral rectangular base .
In excellent original condition with a consistent colour and patina .
