Large mid C20th classical design marble and bronze tazza in the early C19th ‘Grand Tour’ souvenir style by Theodore & Alexander .
The turned Bidasar or ‘Rainforest’ marble bowl of highly figured stone with a roll edge , raised on a cast fluted patinated bronze spreading socle support onto a marble block base . In the style of an ancient Roman tazza or labrum of the type produced in the C18th and C19th centuries as souvenirs after the antique, for wealthy tourists completing the ‘Grand Tour’ of the classical sights and sites of Europe.
Produced by the luxury furnishings and innovative design company of Theodore & Alexander, probably to a design from the renowned designer and stylist Paul Maitland-Smith founder of the company for the “Althorp Living History “ collection. . The distinctively figured Bidasar marble is found in the Rajasthan district of India .
The verso bearing the company’s label and authentication , with a scripted indecipherable date .
In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs . A highly decorative classical style object for use perhaps on a pier or console table .
