Mid C19th Italian �Grand Tour� souvenir bronze sculpture of Venus Pudica.
Well-modelled and cast bronze study of the Goddess emerging from her bath covering her modesty with her hands . Stood upon a naturalistically cast circular integral base mounted upon a black marble plinth.
This interpretation of the naked Goddess is a variant of other famous depictions such as the Venus de Medici , The Capitoline Venus and the Venus Italica . The pose of the naked Venus was further employed in the iconic �Birth of Venus� painting by the Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli.
Known as Venus to the Romans and Aphrodite to the Greeks , she was the Goddess of love , beauty and fertility.
In excellent original condition with a dark consistent colour and patina.
