C19th walnut and kingwood-banded ormolu-mounted 'bureau-plat ' or writing table.The top inlaid with floral marquetry inlay borders , on cabriole legs with well-cast ormolu mounts to the knees and sabots to the feet. Made in England in the French Louis XV taste . Well-figured walnut veneers ,of serpentine outline with single 'concealed' frieze drawer stamped "Edwards and Roberts ". Edwards and Roberts of Wardour St., London ,were a well-respected firm of high-class C19th furniture manufacturers and retailers. Original tooled Morocco leather inset writing surface. The table has achieved a nice mellow colour and patina.
