Description

Impressive late C19th cast-iron, brass and steel fire-basket. Almost certainly Irish with well-cast detailed back featuring garlands, vines and sun mask , with open-twist finial supports on brass 'claw and ball' feet. Serpentine front with pierced Vitruvian scroll frieze .Old minor repair to back (shown).Loose fire-brick to back. A stylish and functional fire-place accessory. A very similar fire-basket can be found at Myrtle Grove, Yougal ,Co. Cork,Eire. ,once the home of Sir Walter Raleigh. See "Country Houses of Ireland" by The Knight of Glin and James Peill.
