C19th bronze 'Grand Tour' souvenir reduction of the "Medici Vase" lamp base. Well-cast bronze copy of the famous marble 'krater' vase sculpted in Athens in the second half of the 1st century AD as a garden ornament for the Roman market. The vase re-appeared on the 1598 inventory of the Villa Medici , hence its title, since 1780 has been displayed in the Uffizi Gallery , Florence ,Italy. The vase features images of Diana and Iphigenia together with heroic warriors such as Agamemnon, Achilles and Odysseus , all in a bas-relief frieze below a vine-leaf band and 'egg and dart' rim. Twin fluted handles with satyrs heads to the sides, an acanthus-carved base with gadrooned support onto a laurel wreath band and square foot.
