Description

Early C19th Regency period mahogany armchair .Good large-scale armchair suitable as a desk or library chair . Standing upon sabre legs with swept scroll arms and "Trafalgar-back" 'rope-twist' top-rail . The fashionable rope-twist design resonant of the naval victories of Admiral Lord Nelson ,national icon of the period, whilst the scroll-arms and overall shape reflect the influences of classical Ancient Greek design. Broad and detailed interlaced carved back-splat, and lumbar rail. Excellent colour , the whole inlaid with box-wood stringing detail. Drop-in seat with original worn tapestry cover . No breaks or repairs.
