Early C19th cased-set of Italian 'Grand Tour' souvenir plaster intaglios . Comprising of two stacking deal trays with outer box ,containing 100 plaster intaglio impressions . Principally profile cameo studies of philosophers and scholars , all complete with no damage. With gilt-foil and yellow paper surrounds mounted upon a 'sea-green' paper background . The inner lid with printed paper trade label in French . Produced in Rome by "Thomas Cades ,Graveur en Pierre fines, Rue de Cours No 436 au Second Etage ". Cades is listed in "Manuel de Voyager en Italie..." by Audin 1835, as a producer of intaglios and gems. Manufactured as souvenirs for rich 'Grand Tourists' and scholars , these fine intaglios were a feature of libraries and classical collections throughout the world .Could be framed and mounted as wall-hanging pictures.
