C19th Anglo-Indian brass-bound teak travelling writing/correspondence box. Exceptional quality heavy-weight brass-bound teak box with multiple brass strapping, corners and re-inforcements , together with decorative brass-inlaid design . The interior with brass string inlay to numerous hinged and ring-handled compartments, trays, hidden 'secret' drawers and sections, together with lift-out centre pen-tray and internal 'well'. The interior lid fitted as a letter/document rack. Fitted with an English brass lock (stamped VR with crown , "Secure Lever") together with original key. The front with decorative brass-inlaid floral panel and star motifs , the sides fitted with heavy-gauge brass 'swan-neck' carrying handles with stops.
Good rich colour and patina , all complete with no damage or losses.
Probably custom-made as a Military campaign officer's piece, or supplied to an official of the governing classes or officer of the East India Company.
