Description

Late C19th Italian 'scagliola' / simulated marble campana-shaped jardinière or wine-cooler. Rounded moulded-edge circular bodied vase with gadrooned base unto a turned circular foot. Well-figured and striated marble design with purple and rose-coloured veining. 'Scagliola' (literal translation 'chips' ) is the Italian decorative technique employing a composition stucco or plaster-type body combined with marble fragments to produce a stone-like finish.
Good clean original condition with no damage. Superb decorative classically-inspired vase which can be used in a variety of different modes.
