Description

Early C19th Regency period scroll-end day-bed . Classically-inspired Grecian design day-bed of exaggerated asymmetrical scroll-ended form. Free-standing ,double-sided design, finished in original creamy/off-white painted decoration (some old refreshment) with parcel-gilt highlights. The oblong reserves above the legs with original gilded cast-lead decorative floriate mounts . Raised on sabre-legs fitted with original well-defined cast-brass claw castors.
Taking its inspiration from Greek antiquity and popularised by the neo-classical designs of the likes of Thomas Hope ,George Smith, and drawings from Ackermans 'Repository of Arts'.
A rare survivor retaining its original calico base covering. In good original 'country house' condition.
