Description

Early C19th George IV period mahogany 2 drawer writing/library table in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster. Of free-standing form with shallowly panelled friezes to all sides and asymmetrical /concealed drawer fronts. The drawers fitted with brass escutcheons and working brass locks (with key) , having never been fitted with knobs or handles. Raised on tapering reeded legs to a turned foot into original patinated brass socket castors .
The rounded-corner top with a 'thumb-mould' edge. Fitted with an old replacement green leather inset writing surface which has rubbed gold and 'blind-tooled' decoration.
The drawers with fine hand-cut dove-tails ,mahogany linings and quarter dust-beads.
High-quality timber and fittings which both allude ,together with the overall design , to the celebrated cabinet-makers Gillows of Lancaster.
Excellent ready-to-use condition , with good original rich patination and colour.
Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
