Description

Pair of late C19th /early C20th silver-plated candelabras of classical design . Smart pair of E.P.N.S (Electro-Plated Nickel Silver) C18th George III style triple knozzle ,twin-branch candelabras by Collis & Co. , London.
Well-cast classical fluted columns and stepped bases with leaf-cast Corinthian caps, all fitted with removable sconces. The detachable foliate cast 3-burner twin-branch arms raised on a knopped spiral-twist stem, can be removed , allowing the columns to be used as single-burner candlesticks. Beaded-edge decoration to the shaped 'drip-pans' and also to the stepped bases. Both candelabras bear a small engraved armorial device to the stepped bases, of a rampant lion above a coronet. The enclosed and weighted bases both stamped "Collis & Co. 130, Regent St., London " and marked EPNS together with makers mark*.
In good original condition , showing some wear and tarnish to plate commensurate with age and use .
Authentic period style decoration to add candle-light and elegance to a dining table or sideboard .
*The Birmingham-based firm of manufacturers George Richmond Collis and Company , opened a branch at 130 Regent St. London in 1854. The well-respected firm produced a wide range of goods described in an 1839 advertisement as"Articles in the highest classes of the arts, in Gold , Silver , Plated bronze and Ormolu.." and in 1849 "..Platers by the new process of Electro Plate on fine German silver etc..."
In addition their quality goods were shown at 'The Great Exhibition' of 1851 .
