Late C19th bronzed desk-top bust study of "Ajax" , after the antique.
Well-modelled bronze patinated copper electrotype bust probably produced by Elkington & Co. Ltd. The bearded and helmeted classical bust study of Ajax looking to dexter , raised on a socle base.
The Greek Ajax was the son of Telamon , the King of Cyprus , he was the ruler of Salamis and a hero of the Trojan Wars.
The study is after a copy by Giambologna ,Italian ,1570, of the Greek original by Antigenes.
Good dark bronzed patination with atmospheric copper highlights .
