Late C19th/early C20th Chinese red painted and lacquered leather chest or trunk on stand, with gilt decoration.
Highly decorative oblong chest on custom-made detachable red-lacquered wooden stand.
Fitted with bronzed metal double lock hasps to the front , each end fitted with twin bronzed metal carrying-handles . The gilt decoration to the front and sides featuring dragons and mythical creatures, pavilions in landscapes , clouds and auspicious lucky bat motifs . The reverse in plain red lacquered finish .
The lifting lid enclosing a clean 'natural' leather coloured interior.
Would work equally well with or without the stand as a wonderfully decorative coffee table or at the end of a bed for a blanket or linen chest.
In good original condition with minor rubbing to the edges and some ring marks to the lid commensurate with age ,use and purpose.
Good wide ,deep proportions and practical height.
