Superb pair of late C19th Chinese Cantonese intricately carved nacre shells mounted on their original bespoke period carved hardwood stands.
Brilliantly carved 'mother of pearl ' or nacre sea-shells with continuous intricate richly detailed designs all over the interior nacre-shell lustre surfaces. The contrasting landscape scenes depicting fantastical Chinese life with mountains and pagodas , one with warriors at battle to the centre. One shell with a beautifully detailed carved fish to the edge.
Displayed upon their original detachable carved blackwood or hardwood stands, with flower-stem and peony flower-head decoration.
The quality of the workmanship being the finest of its type we have seen .
