Description

Early C19th Regency period mahogany mahogany drop-leaf Pembroke sewing table with fitted writing drawer, in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster.
Fine quality free-standing mahogany sewing/ writing / centre table raised on finely turned and reeded legs fitted with original brass castors.
The drawers to both sides fitted with original ornate cast brass knobs . The working drawers to one side composing of a simulated twin drawer front which opens to reveal fitted baize lined writing slope , glass ink bottles, pen tray and compartments. The single vacant drawer below ,above a sliding frame for sewing and embroidery with original pleated silk 'bag' . The twin drop leaves each supported on shaped folding 'ear' flap supports concealed in the side of the frame.
The edges of the top and leaves with reeded detail
The stiles and frame with inlaid box-wood string detail . The reverse 'dummy drawers' mirroring the working drawer side . All key escutcheons with fine ivory or bone surrounds.
In excellent original condition with superb colour and patina.
The grade of mahogany being of exceptional quality , density and tight grain. The highest quality of materials and construction throughout , combined with the design features , lead us to a strong attribution to the esteemed cabinet-making firm of Gillows of Lancaster and London .
