C19th Italian bronze 'Grand Tour' souvenir bust, after the antique , of the Apollo Belvedere.
Well-cast bronze bust study of Apollo Belvedere , also known as the Pythian Apollo. The bust is taken from the marble statue of the Greek god depicted as a standing archer. The Apollo marble sculpture is thought to be a Roman copy of a lost bronze Greek original , it is now exhibited in the Cortile delle Statue of the Belvedere Palace in the Vatican , Rome.
Has achieved an attractive worn patination with traces of possible original gilded surface. The bust study mounted upon an integrally cast turned socle onto a square base.
