C19th 'mother of pearl 'or nacre-shell veneered desk-top obelisk thermometer.
Neatly made obelisk veneered in a geometric parquetry design , lustrous nacre-shell veneers with a bone panel scale to the front , with mercury filled tube and reservoir. The scale incised with both Fahrenheit and centigrade numerical markings.
The tapered obelisk with a faceted triangular top , the whole mounted on a stepped architectural base. Raised on original turned 'vegetable ivory' or nut , ball feet. The underside with original embossed lining .
In good original condition with only one minor loss to shell .
