Fine pair of C18th Japanese Imari pattern porcelain vases and covers.
Exceptional pair of Imari pattern vases in excellent condition and with their original dome covers . Decorated in the typical Imari colour palette of iron reds and colbalt blues with gilded highlights. The covers surmounted with stylised Temple guardian lion dogs or Dogs of Foo .
Decorated with panels of chrysanthemums and flower-head designs.
Both vases in excellent condition with no damage, cracks or repairs . The colours strong and vibrant and the gilding showing little sign of wear or rubbing .
Imari ware of this type and period was imported to Europe mainly by the Dutch East India Company, who supplied and sold to the merchants of Europe. Porcelain of this highly decorative type and period can historically be found in many of the grandest and wealthiest houses of Europe , where it's decorative and exotic properties enhanced and inspired many interiors .
