Late C19th Italian carved alabaster reduction sculpture 'Grand Tour' souvenir, after the antique ,of Spinario or 'The Thorn-puller' signed by Pietro Bazzanti , Florence.
Well-carved alabaster reduction of "Lo Spinario" , the iconic antique statue of the young boy seated on a rock shown in deep concentration whilst engaged in removing a thorn from the sole of his foot.
The original statue of Spinario or "Il Fidele", is an original Greco-Romano Hellenistic bronze which is now housed in the Capitoline Museum, Rome.
Signed to the rear edge by the workshops of "Pietro Bazzanti , Firenze" . The sculpture workshops and gallery of Pietro Bazzanti and Son , were central in the production of Florentine sculpture throughout the mid and late nineteenth century.
In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs.
