Description

C19th French walnut, kingwood and marquetry ormolu-mounted side table or tricoteuse of Louis XVI design.
Good quality cabriole-legged walnut table of free-standing form with a brass-hinged top enclosing a polished interior. The gilt-brass edged serpentine-shaped top with walnut , kingwood and fruit-wood veneers and a central ovoid cartouche panel of floral marquetry and with inlaid fleur-de-lys motifs in the corners . Fitted with a brass lock and supplied with a working key.
The shaped cabriole legs with well-cast and detailed rococo-style ormolu mounts to the shoulders ,and finished with conforming ormolu sabots fitted to the feet .
The concave-shaped lower tier also with a central floral marquetry panel . All of the serpentine outline sides with inlaid marquetry designs in contrasting walnut and fruit-wood veneers. The edges all with kingwood chevron cross-banding .
In excellent original condition with a pleasing mellow patination. Has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Useful and practical small-scale side or lamp table of highly decorative design.
