Description

C18th George III Chippendale period mahogany chest-on-chest or tall-boy of excellent quality.
Fine Northern Counties mahogany tall-boy in fine original condition with some outstanding and unusual features. The stepped and moulded cornice with a dentil moulding above a finely carved frieze of 'Chinese Chippendale' open fret-work . The corners of the upper chest with reeded quarter columns finished with brass caps . All the mahogany veneered drawer-fronts with 'book-matched' figured timber . The cock-beaded drawers all with quality oak linings , the bases with blue 'sugar-paper' lined bottoms .
All drawers fitted with the original brass 'swan-neck' handles , brass escutcheons and working iron locks and supplied with 2 original steel keys of 'bow-type' loop handle form .
The whole raised on original substantial bracket feet , the front of which have unusual carved open frets . The upper section with a boarded flat top. The reverse with all original back-boards ,with taped joins and a light pinkish-red wash in the tradition of the Chippendale workshops .
In excellent original condition throughout with a good rich patination and colour .
Has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
