Early C20th Japanese carved lacquer Taisho period low reception or coffee table.
Highly-decorative Japanese lacquer low table made in the reign of the Emperor Taisho . The top decorated with bold raised lacquer chrysanthemum flower heads and featuring a pea-hen and peacock , the 'eyes' of the tail feathers inlaid with abalone shell detail. Strong bold colours in vivid contrast to the black lacquer ground.
Raised on bold scrolled feet , the correspondingly decorated friezes with pierced detail .
In 'as found' , country-house condition with some chipping and wear to the lacquer and with an historic join gap to the centre of the top . Nonetheless a bold decorative statement to add impact and exotic Oriental flair to a design scheme .
In strong , useable condition.
