Description

Late C18th/early C19th Dutch East Indies brass-mounted hardwood table casket.
Brass -mounted Dutch colonial casket with pierced and engraved corner spandrels , interior strap hinges and studded decoration. The sides fitted with decorative brass carrying handles , raised on turned bun feet . The lid and base edges with a heavily moulded lip .
The front with decorative escutcheon plate and fitted with a working lock and key .
Possibly conceived as a Bible box or jewellery casket. Good rich colour and patina with no losses to brass-ware .
Produced in the Dutch colonies, possibly Batavia , Indonesia.
