Superior quality C19th rosewood, mahogany, walnut and marquetry inlaid casket.
Interesting free-standing lidded casket with superior quality floral marquetry-inlaid panels to each side. The corners with Solomonic or 'barley-twist' column uprights, and raised on projecting carved scroll feet beneath a shaped moulding . The intricate floral marquetry panels inlaid into veneered ''birds-eye" maple burr reserves .
The hinged lid with stepped squared corners enclosing a polished interior. Fitted with the original lock and key , and inlaid with a diamond-shaped lozenge escutcheon .
Possibly designed to contain a musical box or similar mechanism, but with no signs of removal or adaptation.
A practical and decorative floor-standing or table-top casket of the highest quality workmanship and in excellent original condition.
