Description

Late C18th/ early C19th George III period brass-bound mahogany desk-top ‘waterfall’ letter or stationary rack .
Smart quality rectangular mahogany free-standing desk-top stationary rack with five graduated height divisions and compartments of ‘waterfall’ form . The divisions each with shaped cut-out finger 'dips' to allow ease of removal of papers .
The frame fitted with original inset lacquered brass strappings and corners which provide added strength and stability, also suggesting that the rack was designed to be highly portable , even perhaps made for travelling or military campaign use .
The edges and upright sides all with an attractive shaped fretted design , the whole raised on compressed turned bun feet .
In excellent original condition with rich dark patina to both the timber and the brass fittings. Some minor degradation to the polish to the reverse, but crucially retaining its original patina and finish.
