Description

Late C19th patinated plaster library portrait bust study of the classical poet , Homer .
Well-modelled bust study of the Greek poet Homer (c. 750 BCE ) , darkly patinated to resemble bronze . The bust is shown draped in traditional clothing to the shoulders and raised on a socle base inscribed to the front in Greek lettering .
Homer is perhaps the greatest of all the epic poets and his legendary status was well established by the time of Classical Athens . Amongst other works , he composed two major works , the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Good mid-scale classical plaster bust to add decorative and academic interest and gravitas to a classically-inspired interior or library setting.
In good original condition with no damage or repairs. Minor chips to edges commensurate with age .
