Late C19th Indian carved teak or ‘shisham’ circular ivory inlaid table on octagonal folding base .
Intricately carved flower-head and scroll design circular top with central panel of ivory inlay , triple inlaid triangular panels and ivory inlaid border edge.
Mounted upon a hinged and folding octagonal base with carved and pierced leaf and scroll decoration .
Produced in colonial ‘British India’ in the areas of Hoshiarpur or Shimla , regions traditionally renowned for this type of high quality carving and intricate ivory and bone inlaid work . Mainly produced for the export market in response for the fashionable demand for exotic ‘Orientalist’ interiors promoted by retailers such as the esteemed Libertys of London .
In good original condition with only minor losses to the inlaid ivory decoration.
