Description

Early C19th late George III period mahogany secretaire bookcase .
Well-proportioned mahogany bookcase with decoratively glazed 2-door cabinet over a 2-door panelled cupboard base with a fitted fall-front secretaire writing drawer .
The drawer and cupboard fronts all inlaid with a fine ebony line with geometric ‘cosss-over’ square corners. The cupboard base fitted with a single sliding tray shelf , the whole raised on splay bracket feet with a shaped apron .
The well-fitted secretaire writing drawer with multiple interior drawers and pigeonhole compartments, the drawers with maple veneered decorative fronts and turned ivory knob handles . The fold-down secretaire drawer-front interior writing surface lined with the original green felt baize . The exterior of the drawer fitted with original brass ring handles and circular back-plates.
The glazed bookcase top fitted with 3 adjustable ‘ladder-rack’ interior mahogany bookshelves with moulded fronts , enclosed by astragal glazing with fine moulded bars of ‘lancet’ arched design and original glass . The sides of the cabinet with reeded vertical moulded uprights . The moulded cornice above of restrained and elegant design .
The top and bottom doors each fitted with original reeded and patinated brass ‘slamming’ strips
In excellent original condition with a rich consistent colour and patina. Has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops, ready to use .
The bookcase top and cupboard base both fitted with original working locks and keys .
