C19th Italian classical bronze sculpture �Venus Pudica� on a marble base .
�Grand Tour� souvenir after the antique, depicting Venus or Aphrodite depicted nude in a shy pose , attempting to conceal her modesty.
The goddess is shown contrapposto with her arms and hands covering her nudity , probably after bathing .
Well-cast detail and excellent consistent patination and colour.
The sculpture is mounted upon an original turned black marble base .
High quality objects such as this bronze were produced to satisfy the demand for momentoes and souvenirs by wealthy tourists completing �The Grand Tour� of Europe visiting the classical and cultural sights and site of Europe throughout the C18th and C19th centuries.
