Description

Early C19th Regency period mahogany framed robing mirror or ‘Psyche’ of large proportions.
Turned mahogany-framed dressing mirror raised on a ‘cheval’ type base of shaped sabre leg supports fitted with original square cast brass box castors and wheels . The elaborately turned frame with shaped acorn-type finials and united by twin turned lateral bars to the base and one to the top of the frame , providing strength and stability. The mahogany supports having a wide gentle sweep , again providing excellent stability.
The original mercury-silvered mirror plate in a mahogany cross-grained edge frame . The sides fitted with finely-cast gilt brass adjustable knobs or stays , with rosette detail . The brass screw-in knobs on gilded brass plates and fitted with original turned mahogany ‘washers’ to grip the frame and allow precise and stable adjustment of the mirror angle .
The mirror frame having original mahogany multi-panelled back , unusually fitted with 3 original miniature brass rings to the top bar , which can be pulled up to release the back panel from the frame , perhaps providing a ‘secret’ compartment behind the plate.
In excellent dry , fresh-to-market untouched condition.
A large and well-proportioned dressing or robing mirror to add period style glamour and elegance to a bedroom or dressing room .
