Early C19th Regency period carved gilt-wood overmantel mirror of practical scale and proportions.
Gilt-wood framed rectangular overmantel mirror in excellent original condition. The original silver mercury sparkly plate with small areas of atmospheric foxing . The plate surrounded with an ebonised reeded slip .
The carved frame with reeded uprights and shaped semi-circular caps with carved acanthus or ‘stiff-leaf’ applied decoration. The top frieze with a rope-twist type lateral bar with stylised axe or halberd ends .
The base with a corresponding ebonised line . Retaining the original multi-panelled backboards.
All original throughout with original gilded finish which has achieved a desirable soft patination and colour . The gilding showing atmospheric areas of pinky red gesso ground through the gilding .
Minor historic chips to base .
