                                                                            Interesting large early C19th coloured religious engraving or aquatint of St.Peter in water-gilded frame after the original oil by Grao Vasco .
Brightly-coloured engraving featuring a large central seated religious figure on a throne , depicting St.Peter holding ‘the keys to the kingdom of heaven’ . 
The background depicting two scenes from the life of Christ,  showing what appears to be St.Peter and disciples on left and a scene of the Crucifixion on the right . 
The original oil on panel painting by the Portuguese artist Grao Vasco was conceived in circa 1529 as an altarpiece for a side altar in Viseu Cathedral. It in now exhibited in the Grao Vasco museum in Viseu.
Mounted in its original water-gilded frame surround , only minor rubbing and wear commensurate with age .
The engraving in excellent condition with strong, bright colours with no deterioration from sunlight exposure.
