C19th bronze ‘Grand Tour’ souvenir paperweight of a lion after Antonio Canova on a marble base .
Well-cast small bronze lion , being a reduction of one of the marble pair sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1792 for the tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St.Peter’s, Rome . One lion depicted sleeping, whilst the other is vigilant as in this example.
The bronze having a ‘golden’ colour and patina.
Mounted upon a plinth block base of ‘verde mare’ green marble .
