Set of 6 early C19th Charles X period French mahogany Empire-design armchairs/fauteuils. Rare set of 6 salon armchairs with fine Empire-style carved details. Lotus carved arms with anthemion/palmette motifs, standing on gently-swept sabre legs. The top rail with carved architectural pediment surmount . Excellent colour and condition , with old surviving striped cut-velvet and brocaded braid upholstery in highly-servicable condition.
Good scale and presence .
Strong ,sound frames with only minor evidence of historic treated wood-worm.

Would split set and sell as pairs if desired on a price pro-rata basis .

Set of 10 mid-C19th carved mahogany dining chairs in the Chippendale style.

Good set of 10 (comprising 8 singles+ 2 carvers) mahogany chairs in the mid C18th style to the designs of Thomas Chippendale .

Well-carved elaborate interlaced open splat backs with leaf-carving detail and flamboyantly-shaped top-rails with leaf-carved 'ears'.

The broad serpentine-fronted seats with 'drop-in' seat pads ,raised on shaped cabriole legs with acanthus leaf carving to the knees and terminating in 'claw-and-ball' feet.

The larger-proportioned pair of armchairs with conforming decoration , the shaped arms with leaf-carving to the ends which have achieved pleasing wear and patina.

Excellent C18th period-style generous proportions and scale, constructed in traditional manner.

Good rich colour and period-style patina.

Furniture to the designs and taste of Thomas Chippendale saw a fashionable revival during this mid C19th period .

(The seats in need of recovering and upholstering , using a fabric of clients' choice and supply , this is included in the price.)

Late C19th matched pair of George III style mahogany library armchairs. Of slightly varying proportions, a crisply and identically carved pair of mahogany and pale green leather upholstered armchairs . Serpentine front seats with Vitruvian scroll ('running dog') carving to seat rails. Shell carving to oval 'cameo' backs , with leaf carving to arms and frames. Fluted and carved legs , with carved stop-fluted blocks. The quality mahogany frames have achieved a great rich colour and patination . No rips to hide with good close-nail upholstery and of strong ,robust construction with no damage. Well-executed copies of important C18th period mahogany library chairs.

Early C19th George IV period mahogany framed gentlemans bergere library or desk armchair of rare form .

Unusual mahogany library chair mounted upon an integral shaped mahogany platform fitted with large spoked brass castors to ease movement and mobility . Undoubtedly a bespoke piece of ingenious early C19th design , allowing easy movement of the chair whilst remaining seated to move around a library or office.

The shaped-back mahogany framed armchair with scroll arms above reeded tapering front legs with a moulded front seat-rail. The shaped flat platform beneath allowing for transportation or storage of books or files. The 4 large brass castors of substantial scale and proportion with gilded brass spoke wheels. The bergere cane-work all original and complete.

In excellent original condition . The timber of good rich colour and patina . An open joint caused by natural shrinkage to rear quarter of the platform .The cane-work in perfect and original condition and the whole benefitting from light use.

Some wear to arms and front legs commensurate with age and use.

Smart mahogany gentlemans rcling mahogany armchair in the manner of Robert Daws . Excellent quality armchair raised on shaped fluted front supports with conforming design legs to the pull-out stool/foot-rest section , all fitted with original brass castors . The arms with well-carved detail and scroll terminals with leaf-wrapped detail .

The adjustable rake back and stool/foot-rest adjusted with a sprung button release fitted into the side of the frame .The back supported by a turned lateral bar with fine detail. The shaped back legs fitted with original brass castors.

The frame in excellent condition and of rich patina and colour . In need of recovering , presented here in partially stripped state . A price for recovering in fabric of client's choice and selection can be quoted.

*Robert Daws patented his "Improved Recumbent chair" in 1827 and traded from 17, Margaret St .Cavendish Sq. London.
Though not labelled this chair is undoubtedly to his design and build quality.

Late C19th Anglo-Indian teak-framed 'planter's' armchair . Interesting teak and rattan/cane verandah armchair with folding 'swing-out' extending leg-rests. An exaggerated rake to the angle of the back and all original cane-work seat in good strong condition , add to its appeal as an iconic design from the days of British India and the Raj.

Turned front legs and arm supports ,the rear square-section legs splayed , the extensions of the arms swivelling on brass-ringed fitments .

Standing upon sabre legs with swept scroll arms and "Trafalgar-back" 'rope-twist' top-rail . The fashionable rope-twist design resonant of the naval victories of Admiral Lord Nelson ,national icon of the period, whilst the scroll-arms and overall shape reflect the influences of classical Ancient Greek design. Broad and detailed interlaced carved back-splat, and lumbar rail. Excellent colour , the whole inlaid with box-wood stringing detail. Drop-in seat with original worn tapestry cover . Well-proportioned pair of rattan-seated teak veranda armchairs with reeded front legs and scroll arms . Shaped top rail and centre splat with carved flower-head detail .

Armchairs of this design were popular throughout India and the East Indies during the early and mid-C19th , known in the Dutch East Indies as 'Rafflesstoelen' (Raffles chairs) , after Sir Stamford Raffles, Govenor of Java and founder of Singapore.

Traditional pegged construction , sound sturdy frames.

Good pale , dry colour , with minor damage to rattan/cane seats .

Elegant set of four chairs of simple classic restrained design with drop-in seat pads.
Raised on 'Marlborough' design moulded square-section front legs of tapering form joined by an 'H' stretcher . The inset top-rails of well-chosen figured mahogany with a simple ebony line . The triple lumbar support bars with reeded decoration and inter-spaced with an oblong shaped and carved lozenge. The uprights of the frame with moulded edges, the seat-frame edges with a simple moulded surround.

Have retained a rich dark patina and colour . No breaks or repairs , the frames have been waxed and cleaned.

The drop-in seats retaining what appears to be their original blue fabric covering in servicable condition .Could be re-upholstered in client's choice of fabric ,at cost, if desired.
