Impressive-scale lantern of flamboyantly carved C17th Venetian style. Carved winged putti/amorini figural uprights to the corners,and all-over deeply-carved scroll and leaf decoration. Fitted with a cleverly-designed concealed hinged door for access to the lamp.

High-quality gilding with a 'softly' aged patina , with minor areas of 'bleeding' showing the traditionally-prepared red gesso ground base beneath. The 4-panel sides fitted with hand-bevelled glass panes.

The interior refreshed in pale green 'chalky' paint to replicate the original finish .The base with a carved drop pendant finial .

A dramatic and highly-decorative statement for a hall-way, portico or reception room .

In excellent condition with no losses. Complete with short chain , hook and gilt-brass ceiling 'rose' fitting.

Can be re-wired and re-fitted with an internal lamp configuration to client's specification.

The V&A Collection , London , has a similar , though of the period 1570-1600 , Mannerist-style giltwood lantern in its collections .(Museum no. 7225-1860)

Early C20th gilt-bronze octagonal hall lantern of "Versailles" design . Stunning quality copy of impressive scale and form, of the C18th lantern from the Marble Vestibule of the French Royal Palace of Versailles during the reign of Louis XIV. Tapering cage-form design with multi-panel bevelled glass panes fitted rosettes to the divisions. The top formed as a royal crown or corona, with acanthus-leaf and scallop shell decoration. The base with Neptune term masks to the corners and terminating with a berry or pineapple-type finial .Exceptional quality casting and finely chased finish. The pane rosettes with a protruding 'spike' centre (2 deficient) ,and fitted with a hinged opening door for access to the lamps .
Complete with bronze 'S' hook with short chain and bronze ceiling-rose mount .

The original illustrated H.Harvard 'Dictionnaire de l'Ameublement et de la Decoration' Paris 1893 Vol.III pl. 15.

Can be re-wired to client's specification.

Large and impressive pair of early C20th French or Italian carved giltwood twin branch wall-lights /appliqués in the mid C18th Louis XV/ XVI manner.

Powerful pair of wall-lights in carved wood with well-detailed decoration and with gilded surface. The tops with sun-mask or sun-God motifs , the shaped bodies with central vacant carved cartouches and trailing husk details. The shaped twin arms with 'stiff-leaf' carving and carved bobeches and knozzles.

In excellent condition, with no breaks damage or repairs. The gilding of a subtle aged patina.

Supplied with their original aged 'candle-wax dripped' papier-mâché lamp covers.

In need of rewiring, which could be done to client's specifications.

Smart two-branch candelabrum , modelled as a classically-dressed female Greco-Romano style figure bearing candleholders modelled as torches with sconces cast as flames or flambeaux.

Raised on a shaped and stepped plinth block base with applied ormolu decoration . The sides with cast ormolu leaf-wrapped masks , the centre front featuring a mount with a flaming oil-lamp with neo-classical lion-masks, rams-head and griffin motifs.

Some minor discolouration to some areas of the torch 'handles'. No damage , breaks or repairs , with nice aged patination and polished high-points.

The glazed lantern top with typical late C17th style decoration , having old wiring to the interior though perhaps conceived for candle use . The lantern glazed with period-style opaque yellowed 'sodium' glass panels.

Of typical Italian Venetian style design , with scroll-work and spiked decoration throughout, wrythen lower part of column and wrythen supports to sides of the lantern .

A useful addition in creating a mood in a period-style decorative scheme.

Old blackened paint finish with some corrosion to surface contributing to the period atmospheric ambiance.

Modelled as herons or cranes with coronets/crowns around their necks and their claw-feet perched upon rocky/shell encrusted naturalistic patinated bronze bases. Lacquered gilt-bronze bodies with cut-glass beads and prism lustres hung from foliate sconces .The leaf-cast candle-holders 'held' by the beaks of the birds .Weighted cast-iron insert bases. Large late C19th/early C20th Moorish-design silvered-brass hall lantern. Hexagonal form with facetted projecting corners , 'cushion' glazed panel sides and finial decorations . Fitted with a 3-light hanging pendant ,accessed through hinged side-panel door. Chased and pierced design to 'crown' top and finials. Good condition all around with no damage to glass panels , the metal having achieved a nice mellow patination .
